Another exciting announcement for the new year as today we welcome Callum Ness to our team as a Cloud Engineer. Callum is keen to get the ball rolling and develop solutions that make a difference in the environmental space.

Here’s what Callum had to say when we sat down with his for our Q & A session.

Hello and welcome to the Firemind team! It’s great to have you with us. For our viewers, could you please tell us a little about yourself and your professional background?

I’m 28 years old, from Colchester Essex, and started off in a 1st line support & Data Processor role in the automotive industry based in Ipswich. I then moved into a Junior Cloud Engineering/System Administrator role and am now at Firemind as a Cloud Engineer.

How did you find out about us and what made you decide to apply for a role with Firemind?

I found Firemind on LinkedIn, was contacted by Ben, and made the decision to apply to get more hands on experience with AWS/ML/AI services. Firemind are leaders in this space so it seemed like a no brainer!

What is your role at Firemind?

I am a Cloud Engineer.

Which areas of our business interested you the most?

I am most interested in ML/AI.

What will be your main goals/objectives whilst working at Firemind?

To become a Senior Cloud Engineer, ML/AI expert and to get more hands on industry experience with Python.

Which aspects of your role are you most excited about?

Seeing how ML/AI is being used in various industries and the power it can provide to businesses and civilisation in general!

What do you hope to achieve within your first 12 months here?

I’d like to deliver a solution that makes a difference in the environmental space. It’s a big passion of mine and to be able to make an impact there would be great job satisfaction.

Outside of work, what do you get up to? Tell us about your hobbies.

I attempt to play the guitar, have a motorcycle I’m trying to fix up. I also like to run in the evenings, and I’m quite into gaming.

What’s your favourite song on your playlist right now?

Boyhood – The Japanese House.

Any fun nicknames we should know about? If Yes, what’s the backstory?

Nesquick – my second name being ‘Ness’, as I used to do the sprint on school sports day and the name stuck.

If you could only choose one dish to eat every meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Fish and chips (with mushy peas).

What is at the top of your bucket list?

To visit South Africa and go to Kruger National Park.

What is one skill you would really love to learn?

I’d really like to play the piano.

How do you wind down after work?

I enjoy watching movies, playing games and walking in the woods near my house.
